２年３組の新妻泉佳さんが、２３日（土）福島高専で行われた中学生英語スピーチコンテストに出場し、１５名の参加者の中で見事優勝を果たしました。
　タイトルは、I　Love　kyuushoku！
　堂々と落ち着いた発表で、力を出し切りました。
　
　以下は、発表原稿と日本語訳です。


I love Kyushoku! 給食大好き！

I love school lunch. I prefer lunch time to club activities and of course. Do you like school lunch , too?

私は給食が大好きです。部活動の時間よりも、もちろん、授業の時間よりも。

When I wrote this script I interviewed peaple I know about it. My parents of course said they like it.

私がこの原稿を書くときに、身近な人たちに給食についてインタビューしてみました。私の両親は、もちろん給食が好きでした。

However, my gradma and grandpa did not like it very much. In fact, they seemed to rather dislike it,

でも、祖父母はあまり好きではないようでした。　むしろ、嫌ってさえいるようでした。

because "in those days , school lunch was not delicious at all. In the past , Japan was still poor.

なぜなら、「昔は、給食が全然おいしくなかった。 昔は、日本は貧しかった。

It was more important to have the minimum necessary nutrition , than for food to taste good.

食べ物のおいしさより、必要最低限の栄養があることが重要だったんだ。」

Hearing that , I asked , "Did anyone leave any leftovers because it wasn't delicious?"

それを聞いて、私は聞きました。「じゃあ、おいしくないからみんな残したでしょう?」

"No." My grndpa replied. 　　「いいや。」祖父は答えました。

"We were always hungry because we didn't have enuogh hood. We always ate everything."

「昔は食べ物が足りなくて、みんな腹ぺこだった。残さず全部食べてたよ。」

I was surprised to hear that. 　　それを聞いて驚きました。

I was surving chef in my school now , and I'm always indignant at the time it takes to clean up.

私は今給食係をしていて、片付けの時間になるといつも憤慨しています。

Most of my classmates often throw away so much of their leftovers .

多くの生徒が、しょっちゅうたくさんの食べ残しを捨てています。

Why Japanese students ! ホワイ　ジャパニーズ　スチューデント！

Nutritionists and cooks worked hard to make it for them.

栄養士や調理人の方々が、一生懸命作ってくれたのに。

I cannot believe it when they throw it away so calmly like it doesn't matter.

それを当たり前のように捨てるなんて、私には信じられない。

I wondered "why doesn't everyone finish, their delicious contemporary meals
when people always finished their plain school meals all those years ago?"

どうして、昔の質素な給食は残さず食べられていたのに、今のおいしい給食はみんな残してしまうんだろう？私は不思議に思いました。

The reason is Japan has become richer than in the past.

その訳は、日本が昔より豊かになったからです。

After the war , all the citizens of Japan worked hard and made remarkable progress.

戦後、国民は懸命に働き、目覚ましい進歩を遂げました。

Being rich is better than being poor, but it's not always a good thing.

豊かになることは，貧しいよりいい、でも、それはいいことばかりではないのです。

For some time many Japanese have become rich , so they have lost their mottainai mindset.

いつしか、多くの日本人は、豊かになるとともに、「もったない」心も失ってしまいました。

I examined a study published by the ministry of the Environment in January 2015.
The study examined the amount of food left by elementary and junior high school students.

２０１５年１月に環境省が発表したデータを元に、全国の小中学生が食べ残す給食の量を調べました。

It found that the total food wasted added up to 66,000 tonnes per year.

一年間に廃棄される給食の量は、６万６千トン。

That enormous amount is enough to help the more than 20,000 children who die of starvation
in developing countries every year.

その膨大な量は、毎年、途上国で餓死する２万人以上の子供たちを助けるのに充分な量です。

Even though it is limited to within the school , such a large amount of food is too easily discarded every day.

学校給食だけでも、これだけ大量の食料が毎日、簡単に捨てられているのです。

Peaple in the old days appreciated things , they were thankful even if they were not rich .

昔、人々は、貧しくて、ものを大事にして、感謝する心を持っていました。

I hope to teach the children of today about such mindfulness.

私は、現代の子供たちに、その心を伝えたい。

I pray that everyone who hears my speech will think about this problem ,
and I will continue to take my school lunch very seriously .

私のスピーチを聞く人誰もがこの問題について考えてくれることを祈りながら、
私はこれからも真剣に給食に向き合うのです。
