English Immersion Camp
This weekend, the first English Immersion Camp was held in Iwaki for Student Council Presidents and students going to America.
Early Saturday morning, 16 ALTs, 3 Japanese teachers and 42 students met at 自然の家 in Hisanohama. After the opening ceremony, ENGLISH ONLY TIME began! If you spoke Japanese, you had to do a batsu-game. At first, it was hard (for ALTs too!) but soon everyone tried their best. Over two days, we did many activities and spoke a lot of English. It was so much fun!!! I was so impressed with everyone's English and I enjoyed getting to know the students. Two days was not enough! 大成功! Maybe you can join it next year!! ~Felli Fwd: Fighting Festival (ケンカ祭り)
On Saturday I went to the Fighting Festival in Iizaka (飯坂温泉). Have you heard of it? Some ALTs and the Fukushima FC soccer players carried a portable shrine (お神輿). I carried the Japanese flag, and I was on TV! Did you see me?
At night, floats with many lanterns were crashed together. It was very scary! It was great to see this traditional Japanese festival. ~Felli Aizu Festival
This long weekend I went to Aizu Wakamatsu to see the Aizu Festival. On Saturday and Sunday night there was a Bon Dance (盆踊り). The main event was on Monday. Many people dressed up in traditional Japanese clothes - samurai and women in kimono. The parade started at the castle, 鶴ヶ城. The weather was sunny, so many people came. It was a lot of fun! Maybe you can go next year?
~ Felli > Tea Ceremony> > On Saturday 20 and 27 July, we had a Morning Tea Ceremony. We ate many delicious foods and enjoyed tea together. But, it started at 5:30 in the morning! So, I got up at 4:00 to put on yukata. So early! But I really enjoyed it. > > Let's try tea together! > > ~Feli IwateMorioka City is famous for noodles. I ate わんこそば and 冷麺 and じゃじゃ麺! Yummy! Also, I visited Koiwai (小岩井) Farm. I saw cows and sheep, and I made butter! It was a lot of fun. In Tono I went kappa fishing (かっぱ釣り). Did I catch one? What do you think? Iwate was a lot of fun! You should visit, too! ~Felli > Iizaka World Cafethere are World Cafes in Fukushima. Adults and students, people from different countries all went. > > We walked around Iizaka and tried geta (下駄). It was very hot! Then we made uchiwa (うちわ) and played some games. It was a lot of fun! You should try it sometime! > > ~Felli > > Back to School
Now we are in the second week of school. How are your classes? First graders, do you like junior high school?
In Japan, the school year starts in April, in spring. But in many countries it is different. Many places have the long summer vacation at the end of the school year. In America, the summer vacation is in July and August like Japan. So the school year starts in September and ends in July. In Australia, summer vacation is from December to January, so the school year starts in February and ends in December. Then in summer vacation you don't have to go to school! Also in Japan there are three semesters (学期). 3rd semester is shortest. In most of Australia there are four semesters. So we have an autumn (fall) vacation as well. Isn't it interesting? School is different in every country. ~Felli |
